Course Descriptions

SBPromoSwim Course - The swim is held in the new competition pool at MU. There is simply no better indoor swim venue in the sport. The swim is "snake-style," meaning that everyone will line up according to their swim time (please time yourself at 440 yards before the race) and start individually (~10-12 seconds apart), swimming one behind the other. You will do "laps" to the end of the pool (swim to the end of one lane, duck under the ropes and swim to the end of that lane, duck under the ropes and so on). If you must pass, simply tap the toes of the person in front of you....if your toes are tapped, move to the side and let the person through. IMPORTANT: If you estimate your time too fast or too slow, it will hurt YOUR overall time and the others around you. Your best time will come if you don't pass or get passed. That means an accurately estimated swim time. We reserve the right to remove athletes from the pool and re-start them if needed.

Bike Course - The sprint triathlon bike course is two loops and one loop for the new Zou Du. The course is open to traffic and we will use cones to separate cyclists from motorists when possible. Please stay inside the coned lanes when available. The course does feature some technical type turns and a few hills, so throw a decent hill or two into your training. Arrows, signs and volunteers will help you.

Run Course - The run course is a loop on paved roads through the middle of the MU Campus and surrounding areas. The course is a modified loop and out and back section. The Zou Du course will be announced soon. Arrows, signs and volunteers will help you. Aid stations will be located every mile. Aid Station Supplies: Heed, Water, Ice and Hammer Gel.

Transition Area (TA) - The area has been designed first and foremost with safety and ease of traffic movement in mind. You will run from the swimming pool into the TA through the RUN IN door. You will exit, on your bike through the BIKE OUT DOOR. After the bike is finished, you will enter the TA through the BIKE IN door, put your bike away and head out of the RUN OUT door, then complete the run course and finish under the finish line arch. Arrows, signs and volunteers will help you.

Get full course maps and directions in the Course Maps Section. Please remember it is your responsibility to know the course.

volunteerAre your friends and/or family coming to the event? Are they interested in volunteering while you race? We have positions where they can see you start, race and then be there at the finish line to greet you. Nearly 100% of all unsolicited racer comments include praise for our volunteers; this is truly what makes these events possible. The racers really appreciate your time because they know and realize they could not pursue this sport without volunteers. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at info@ultramaxtri.com.

USAT Athlete Excess Medical Policy
The athlete excess medical coverage protects each participant for the day of the event at USAT sanctioned races, camps and clinics. When athletes purchase a USAT annual license or one day permit, a portion of those fees cover the cost to provide them with excess medical insurance. This coverage only extends to their participation in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and is only available after the injured party has filed with any primary insurance policies. A deductible does apply for this excess coverage.

If an athlete is injured while participating in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event the following steps must be followed:
• Athletes must file with their primary healthcare provider (i.e. United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, traveler’s insurance, etc.).
• Athlete completes a medical claim form. For serious incidents or for athletes requesting coverage, either the race
director or USAT can provide them with a medical claim form. The medical claim form along with an explanation of benefit documents should be sent directly from the athlete to the insurance company as indicated on the claim form. Please email sanction@usatriathlon.org for a copy of the form.
• Athletes will pay a deductible. All claimants will pay anywhere from $250.00 (two-hundred and fifty U.S. dollars) to $1,000.00 (one thousand U.S. dollars) out of pocket and possibly more for uncovered expenses.
Be advised that coverage may not apply to each and every claim. Additionally, coverage only extends to participants that have purchased a USA Triathlon annual license or one-day permit and were injured through participation in an USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Please email questions to sanction@usatriathlon.org
