Course Descriptions
The hub of the event will take place at the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. The swim will occur in the calm waters of the Intracoastal Waterway. The U.S. Coast Guard and S.C. Department of Natural Resources are closing the Intracoastal Waterway to boat traffic during the swim portion. The S.C. Department of Transportation has authorized the closing of a portion of S.C. 31 for the bicycling segment. The commitment by the city, county and state agencies is virutally unprecidented in the sport of triathlon. BE SURE TO SAY THANKS!
Swim Course - The swim will be a wave start format with a set of waves assigned for each of the three event distances. Swim maps are now posted below! Specific wave assignments will be posted closer to race date.
Bike Course - This bike course is set to be one of the fastest courses in the sport. The City, County and State have rolled out the red carpet to welcome our athletes to Myrtle Beach in grand style. All three bike courses are on completely CLOSED multi-lane roads and highways. The course has very few turns, is perfectly smooth and has NO hills. What more could a triathlete want in the sport? The Halfmax bike course will be two loops and the Quartermax and Sprint distance courses will be a single loop format. There will be a timing check point at the bike course turnaround point.
Run Course - The run course travels along a closed road that runs along the scenic Intracoastal waterway. There will be aid stations each mile along the course. The Halfmax run course will be two loops and the Quartermax and Sprint distance courses will be a single loop format. The Halfmax racers will return near the transition area for the second loop giving spectators a great chance to cheer on their athlete. There will be a timing check point at the run course turnaround.
Transition Area (TA) - The transition area will be at the Marina Inn Hotel. Transition maps and descriptions will be coming soon!
Course Nutrition - There will be one Water Bottle Station on the bike course. Both water and Gatorade Sports Bottles will be handed out. PLEASE NOTE: You MUST pick up after yourself and dispose of the water bottles in the proper manner. If anyone drops a bottle outside of the water station or anywhere else on the course, he or she will automatically be disqualified. Help keep keep the course clean and be responsible. Each of the four Aid Stations on the run course will offer water, Gatorade, Hammer Gels, Endurolytes and fruit. Once you cross the finish line, be sure to rehydrate with one of Gatorade's NEW Recovery drinks, 03 Recover.
